https://www.westerntelegraph.co.uk/news/1074422.mr-d-n-james-of-clynderwen/ Western Telegraph The death occurred, on November 3rd, of David Nicholas James, of Manordre, Clynderwen, at the age of 68. David was born at Manordre and spent his lifetime farming until ill-health prevented him from continuing. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. The large congregation at Pisgah Chapel, Llandissilio, where the funeral was held was testimony to the popularity of a special, genuine person, and the high regard in which his family is held. Over the years David had been a faithful and active member of Pisgah, and was a deacon for many years. He enjoyed humour and always welcomed people who often called for information on local and family history, something he had great knowledge of, and interest in. A keen member of Clynderwen YFC, he was a very active member, had particular interest in public speaking and dramas, having many success in competitions both county and national level. He was also skilful in the art of halter making and splicing ropes, a skill he passed on to a number of young farmers in more recent times. During the 1960s he was a member of the concert group Alawon Taf, St Clears, where he played the mouth-organ, performing to audiences in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. He had an interest in vintage tractors and machinery, and when time allowed he followed various local shows and ploughing matches. He was one of the instigators in reviving Clynderwen YFC Show in 1979. A service at the house was conducted by the Rev Huw George, who also officiated at the chapel assisted by the Revs Hywel Brown and Howell Mydd. Rev Huw George paid a wonderful tribute to David, and also gave an account of his life-time story. Apologies for being unable to attend were received from Rev Hywel Jones and Rev Llinos Edwards. The organist was Mrs Julie Higginson and leaflets were distributed by John Beynon and Jimmy Morgan. Bearers at the house were Ian Griffiths, David Nicholas, Paul Nicholas, Grismond Lewis, Robert Jones, Lloyd Evans. Bearers at the chapel were Morse Williams, Hywel James, Ken Hart, Owain Martin, David Griffiths, Lawrence Bowen. The principal mourners were Nansi James (wife); Meredith and Wendy (son and fiance); Picton and Sian (son and girlfriend); Gwyn and Lenore Nicholas, Cei, David and Carol Nicholas, Peter and Keri Nicholas, Anne Youngman, Dewi and Marian Nicholas, Euluned Evans, Winnie, David and Alun Nicholas, Haulwen Nicholas, Margaret Harries, Mair Michael, Paul Nicholas, Delyth and Robert Jones, Ian Griffiths, Elvet Jones, Vernon Jones (cousins); Grismond and Mary Lewis (brother and sister-in-law); Mark, Jane and Geraint Lewis; Lloyd and Hayley Evans. |
