Note: Deceased Deceased Note: John Thomas (Jack) Nicholas Jr. John Thomas (Jack) Nicholas Jr. JOHN THOMAS NICHOLAS JR. (JACK) John Thomas Nicholas Jr. (Jack) was born on August 8, 1927 in Ansley, NE. He passed away Saturday July 14, 2007 in Vancouver, WA. He was 79 years old. He was raised on the family farm until 1941 when the Nicholas family moved from Nebraska to Portland, OR. Jack went to Franklin High School while in Portland. The family moved to Malad, Idaho the following year and Jack attended and graduated from Malad High School. Jack served in the US Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. During this time he met and married Beverly Nadine Schuster, our mom. They were married in Spokane, WA on October 26, 1951. Jack completed his education at the University of Idaho and began teaching biology at Moscow High School in 1956. Jack and Bev welcomed their first child, Jeff that year as well. In 1957 the Nicholas family moved to Yakima, WA where Jack began a 25 year education career at the newly opened Eisenhower High School. Son Joel was born in 1958. At Eisenhower, Jack served as a biology teacher, track coach, boys counselor and vice-principal and he retired in 1981 as the principal of Franklin Jr. High. During his tenure with the Yakima School District Jack was awarded the educator of the year award. Jack and Bev moved to Vancouver, WA in 1986. Bev passed away in 1991. While in Vancouver Jack was involved in Master Gardeners, The Vancouver Pops, who brought music to elementary schools all over Clark County, and the St. John's Presbyterian Church Choir. Jack was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Yakima. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, his parents John T. and Catherine Nicholas, his sister Margaret (Peggy) and his brother Benjamin, who he missed dearly. Jack is survived by his sons, Jeff (Linda) Nicholas of Vancouver, and Joel of Portland. By his companion, Victoria Nichols, his grandchildren, Damaris Nadine Nicholas and Devan Marie Nicholas of Vancouver. His sister Ruth (Gerry) of Kearney, Nebraska and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Camas, WA. Memorials, if desired may be made to the St. John's Presbyterian Church Choir in Jack's name. |
